90th Birthday

My grandpa’s 90th birthday was this past December. For this very special day, I thought I would hire a photographer so I didn’t have to worry about taking pictures, but then it hit me, COVID. Having a small family gathering was one thing, but asking a stranger to come into the fold was, it seemed, too dangerous. Maybe one of these days life will be safer to live again. Until then, we all must do our part to keep our loved ones safe.

My family spent the celebratory day outside. We went fishing in the morning and then had dinner and cake back home in the garage!

Something new I tried was a photo booth. I got the idea from a high school prom event years ago. I don’t have an extra camera so I used my cell phone instead. It turned out to be a big hit! (I am the crazy lady in the zebra sweater.)

Catalina Mountains from Windy Point and the Wildfire

Last night a group of my former photography students and I went to Windy Point to photograph the skyline. We didn’t think we’d see the fire from there, just the smoke. In a matter of hours the fire had climbed over the next peak and was visible from our vantage point. As of 10:00 am today, people are being evacuated from the area at the base of the mountains. In this photo you can see the fire cresting the ridge (far right).

Here we are as a group earlier in the evening. You can see the smoke pluming behind us.
