i.e. 11. What Can Marshmallows Teach Us About Formative Assessments (link in bio) You may be wondering, "What can marshmallows teach us about formative assessments?" Formative assessments are about trial and error and getting feedback. We're to have eyes on our students' learning the entire time, much like one long "Research and Development" process, emphasizing the importance of "prototyping." It's all about understanding, informing, and improving learning! Likewise, grades are for communication, not compensation. Assessment is not grading! Do we "breed" the desire to learn out of our students because of the high-stakes we place on them through grades? Chan and Mrs T pose that high-stakes testing (summative) with no formative feedback, inhibits learning. Bring back creativity and collaboration into your assessments! Create independent learners who can assess others and themselves.

By far, my favorite idea for spirit week was today, Dress Like A Teacher Day. I had so much fun today with my twins! I did double takes all day long thinking I was looking at a teacher but instead the person was a student! The Importance of Modeling Student Leadership as a 21st Century Skill (YouTube link in bio) Our modern world, driven by technology and the Internet, requires professionals who possess skills such as leadership, flexibility, and initiative. These are a few of the 21st Century skills which will help adults keep up with our ever-changing and fast-paced world. As teachers, it is our responsibility to train our students in the understanding of these skills as well as how to employ them. Leadership falls under the broader, Life Skill category, and is important to develop for the purpose of collaboration, accomplishing goals, and meeting deadlines. Leadership applies not only to supervisors, but also to entry-level employees who must be able to recognize manager decisions and eventually, be able to make them themselves. I had the coolest lunch break at school today! One of my students is a connoisseur of all things antiques and he blessed me with the gift of antique sound. The other cool thing is that this student taught me about records. I learned the difference between a 45, a 78, and a 33. I am forever grateful for the gift of constant learning! #records #teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #antiques
