Just finished Pilgrim’s Progress! Ok, so definitely not an easy read- Neil Postman would explain to us why- but WELL WORTH the effort. The first part was written in 1678, and the second in 1684. It’s a religious allegory by John Bunyan who, through the use of characters with names such as Mercy, Christiana, and Mrs. Knownothing, symbolically represent the pilgrimage we all are currently walking, with our ultimate destination being eternal life, either in Heaven or in Hell. Throughout the book one can relate to multiple characters and to multiple situations that they encounter during their travels. This book was, at one time, second only to the Bible in popularity. It is the most famous Christian allegory still in print. It was first published in the reign of Charles II, and was mostly written while Bunyan was imprisoned for religious offenses against the Church of England! #pilgrimsprogress #bookreview #christianity #bookworm

Oh my gosh! This 2,400 year old Chinese text is fascinating! I’ve always wanted to read it because it has been referenced by just about every great military leader since it was written. The text details how to win a battle in every situation, how to interpret the movements of your enemy, and how to read the behavior of generals. One can even apply the knowledge learned on the battlefield by Sun Tzu to the classroom! In the chapter, The Army On The March, points 42 and 43 discuss how soldiers will react to discipline, depending on whether they have grown attached to the general or not. These words of advice can even apply to teachers! Those who have established trust will garner more willingness from their students and have better classroom management. Those that do not will see that asking students to work hard, or employing classroom discipline, will be useless. #theartofwar

Episode 50 is coming! We’ve been working hard collecting data from our students for this episode. Of the 74 students we interviewed, 1/2 said that the one thing they’d change about education is to make it more engaging. My home room, the Minutemen! We have worked so hard to win the coveted retreat games trophy. The thing is, winning this trophy isn’t just about speed or numbers. The majority of the points are awarded based on how well the team works together and if they are kind and listen to each other. This is not an easy thing to do when faced with group challenges that test your patience and humility!
